This Seminar is designed to help those in all aspects of Property Management understand state laws and the proper use of noticed forms.

The purpose of the New Mexico Uniform Owner-Resident Relations Act is to simplify, clarify, modernize and revise the law governing the rental of dwelling units and the rights obligations of owner and resident, and to encourage the owners and the residents to maintain and improve the quality of housing in New Mexico. 

 

Instructor: Gene Vance

Gene Vance practices real estate, employment and commercial law in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is General Counsel for the Apartment Association of New Mexico. Having represented owners and managers of property for more than three decades, he has litigated thousands of landlord-tenant matters ranging from residential evictions and fair housing complaints to commercial lease disputes. He is also one of the primary drafters of the 1995 major revision and the 1999 and 2005 amendments to the New Mexico Uniform Owner-Resident Relations Act.

Mr. Vance also served for more than 12 years on the Supreme Court of New Mexico Rules Committees which write the rules of procedure for Metropolitan and Magistrate Courts. He was repeatedly selected by the New Mexico Judicial Education Center to provide annual instruction on landlord-tenant law for the judges who serve on these courts. Mr. Vance has been an instructor in numerous seminars approved for continuing legal education credit, including seminars in landlord-tenant law, employment law and litigation for the State Bar of New Mexico, Lorman Education Services, National Business Institute, and the Council on Education in Management. Prior to beginning his practice in New Mexico, Mr. Vance graduated with highest honors from the Baylor University School of Law and was an editor of the Baylor Law Review. Mr. Vance is also admitted in the State of Texas and served as a briefing attorney for the Supreme Court of Texas.
