Storytelling 101: Begin with Yourself

Lisa TrosienStorytelling as a sales technique isn’t difficult to learn. And the easiest way to start is by telling the story of YOU. How does that work? Simple! When introducing yourself to your new customer (whether in person, on the phone or using email) just let them know who you are and why you are the best person to help them in their search for a new home.

For myself, I’d say something like this: “I’m Lisa Trosien. I’ve been helping people find their new apartment for over 25 years and I’m looking forward to helping you find yours.” I told them about myself and my qualifications and let them know I’d be delighted to help them. Who wouldn’t like to work with someone like that? And the story itself is brief. It makes a connection, provides a benefit to the customer and everyone wins. For those of you who are brand new, simply focus on how much you love helping people find their new apartment. If I were brand new,  here is how I would make my introduction: “I’m Lisa Trosien and I’ll be helping you find your new apartment. I love helping people select their new apartment.” See? Simple and effective.

Try writing down your ‘story of introduction’ first, then practice saying it out loud. Once you have it down so that it sounds like YOU, start using it with your prospects.
